Why this site exists
Search for “best HYROX shoes” and you will find a dozen articles that read like they were written by someone who has never pushed a sled. They list weights and drop heights copied from product pages, award a winner, and link you to Amazon.
None of them will tell you the thing that actually matters: that the shoe which makes your 8 km comfortable is often the shoe that slides at the sled, and that the right answer depends on which station is costing you time.
HybridGearLab was built to answer that question with a method instead of an opinion.
What we do differently
We score every station separately. Hybrid fitness is not one sport. A HYROX race is eight kilometres of running interrupted by eight stations that demand contradictory things from your footwear. We publish a nine-axis profile for every shoe so you can buy for your weakness, not for a generic award.
We label what we have actually used. Every product is marked either hands-on tested or research review. We do not pretend to have trained in gear we have only read about.
We leave fields blank. If we cannot verify a specification, we do not estimate it. Empty cells on this site are a feature.
We publish our method. Our entire scoring system is documented at How We Test, including what earns a high score and what does not. If you disagree with a score, you can see exactly where you disagree.
Who is behind it
HybridGearLab is run by Luis Mauricio, an industrial engineer who trains and competes in HYROX. The engineering background is relevant here in a specific way: this site is built on measurement, documented criteria, and repeatable scoring, because that is the only honest way to compare products that are marketed with adjectives.
We are not sponsored by any brand. We buy the gear we test.
How we are funded
